All day long our mind is processing thoughts. You can learn (very quickly) how to release those thoughts and train your mind to relax and restore.
You do not need any props to do meditation. You just need a willingness to either sit comfortably or lie down and breathe! Closing your eyes and relaxing, focusing on your breath. As you are in your relaxed state, you can do some visual imagery.
Let go of unwanted thoughts, the busyness of the day, all that you did, didn’t do or needed to do and visualize those “busy” thoughts going into a box. Now close the lid and let them go!
As you walk away from the thoughts, imagine yourself in a peaceful, beautiful setting. Perhaps on a beach (my favorite!) or somewhere out in nature. Take it all in as if you are really there. Let your mind wander into tranquility. Listening to a guided meditation (you can get hundreds of them on youtube.com) can be very soothing and helpful to get you started. You can also listen to soothing music or sounds of nature. Anything to create that calm state.
I also like to recommend lavender essential oil. Place just a small drop right under your nose and take a few deep breaths before beginning your meditation. It can aid in your relaxation and smells delicious.
Some people turn to meditation before an exam, an important meeting, after a stressful day, dealing with a toxic person(s). Even though this is great thinking, it is wise to consider incorporating meditation as part of your daily routine whether you are having a great day or perhaps not your best day.
If you haven’t tried meditation, why not give it shot? It truly helps to improve the quality of life. If you already incorporate meditation daily, consider spending a few more moments each day in a state of calm. It has so many wonderful benefits. Why not get started right now?
